 Musica Poetica

The Baroque chamber ensemble Musica Poetica Brno has been established in 1998 as a group of young professional musicians interested in faithful performance of early music. The majority of its members received their elementary education in the field at the Brno Academy of Early Music and subsequently deepened their expertise by means of independent study and participation in numerous master courses in early music, both in Czech Republic and at various places in Europe. The members of Musica Poetica play replicas of period instruments, which include harpsichord, viola da gamba, Baroque traverse flute, and Baroque oboe or Baroque violin, in addition to the voice and recitation. The ensemble concentrates primarily on concert performance, and it has appeared at a number of festivals, both in Czech Republic and abroad, such as the Millennium Festival in Pilsen, 2000; the Thetrum Festival in Kuks, 2002 and 2003; or the Barokforum Festival in Warsaw, Poland, 2005. However, Musica Poetica does not shy away from unconventional projects, either: as an example of these, the Vespillo's Baroque Cabaret in the Brno experimental theater Husa na provázku may be mentioned. The concerts of Musica Poetica have always been arranged as encounters between Baroque music and poetry, with a view to rediscovering the complex interplay between music and spoken word in Baroque musical literature.
The goal of the ensemble is to offer its audience a glimpse of the atmosphere and thinking familiar to people of the Baroque period, from which one can still draw inspiration today.
